The Power of Human Connection
In 2018 the APS collaborated with Swinburne University on a study of loneliness in Australia.
Loneliness is an increasing public health concern, associated with mental and physical ill health. Psychologists are experts in helping people improve their social skills, build stronger connections, and enhance their relationships. The research shone a light on the wellbeing of Australians and their experience of social isolation.
Psychologists held public events, providing advice on tackling loneliness. This was underpinned by a media and social campaign to raise awareness.
The public were encouraged to download resources and plan events that would help Australians combat loneliness by empowering them with practical steps to build stronger relationships and be better connected.
